On a package delivery run, my summer job, on my 15th birthday, all 5'8" blond hair/blue eyed, 135lbs of me walked into an FM radio station in my hometown of Detroit, Michigan. I asked a gentleman at the reception desk in my best deep baritone voice for his signature on a package, and the rest, as they say, is history. Surprised that this towhead had this voice, he asked me if I'd like to get into radio. Every boy wants to be a DJ, so I enthusiastically said yes. I got a part time job on weekends spinning European import "beautiful music" discs of Raymond leFevre, Paul Mauriat, Mantovani, etal, with an accompanying respectful back announce of every music set. Radio broadcasting became my passion.
College in Michigan introduced me to alternative rock. Post college landed me back in Detroit for a stint with an FM/AM 50's oldies radio station. From there I was off to LA with KIIS FM where I worked as a counselor in their broadcast school and overnights on air. In tinsel town I found background acting work, freelance voice over projects, and audio and video production gigs. Working in satellite and cable radio allowed me production, programming, and engineering experience in the new techno age.
But still at heart, I prefer the one on one of live radio. Presenting tunes on my show and the talk between my listeners and me. May that great feature of radio broadcasting never go away!
